Some time ago I've won an auction lot with 3 cameras for about $10. It wasn't clear if cameras were working or not. It contained point-and-shoots Yashica J2, Minolta Panorama Zoom, and strange-looking Minolta 110 Zoom SLR. As it turned out, first two were in the working condition. In this article I want to share some information and pictures I've took on Yashica J2 (or Yashica "Nindja Star", how was it branded for the western market).
Yashica J2 is Japan point-and-shoot (which means fully automated compact camera) from 80s. And I adore it's design - it resembles cyber punk films or anime from 80s-90s, doesn't it?
Image quality is good enough most of the time, if you don't need super sharpness. Autofocus sometimes fails. But Yasica 32mm 1:3,5 lenses can produce really nice pictures. Here I've found that the lenses are identical to the lenses from the highly-ranked model - Yashica T2. Maybe this is true, how knows.
Overall I really like it. I am not a pro, and not even an experienced or talanted amature photographer, but with Jashica J2 I've captured some precious moments and I liked the results.
Let's start with couple of shots, which have been taken near the Zurich See on Kodak Gold 200.
Next pictures were shot during my winter vacation in Heviz, Hungary. Totally different lighting, but I am still very happy with the results.
Final shots are from Zurich and Adliswil in Switzerland during the Cristmass time. This time the film was Kodak Ultramax 400.
That's it for today. See you next time. I am going to review a lot of other strange and interesting devices. Cheers!
